YES WE DID

Last night I "had"  to be away from home due to a rehearsal responsibility I had to some fellow singers, and even though I previously, in writing, requested not to be rehearsing from 7 - 930 PM Election night, I was told I would not be "off the hook."   Okay, so I honored my commitment.  I left my kids at home, even though they were so sad knowing how personally important this night would be to me.

And I went into rehearsal.  But, once I got there -- still,  all I heard from people running the rehearsal were dismissive comments about our missing the election results -- such as "Oh, well I'd rather be with my friends singing than just watching TV.   I can watch it later on TV, anyway." 

What?!   Sorry, but that's offensive to me.   I have spent a great deal of time and energy working so hard to do what I could to help get Obama elected, local Democrats into office, and -- this is what really strikes me as unfair -- I've done so much to prevent Prop 8 from passing, an issue that was cited as "the only issue" that "really mattered" to the person running the show last night.  Well, fine.  But, stop thinking you're concerns and needs are the only ones that count.  I'm pretty upset about this.  This may have really defined something about loyalty to me, for good.

Well, God knows I love my fellow singers deeply, but last night was different.  And now that I have some perspective, I do regret not being home with my kids last night -- Because last night wasn't "just TV," last night was history.

Yes - The greatest political moment of my lifetime, that much is clear.

My God. We did it. I didn't know if we could -- but I was going to try, just the same -- but I was so wary about our ability to get the power back from those bastards.

But, we did.

Here we go with one more political freak out about "socialism"...again.

I'm seeing more of this brewing, festering hate lately, and I just can't get my brain around it all. The pick up trucks on the freeway with their proud "teabagger" stickers. Occasional social gatherings where I over here mutterences like, "the next time it'll be Mitt's turn." or some other bizarre garbage.  I mean, I live in Orange County, so occasionally even when I try to help it, this does occur. But, the truth is, I just don't get the beef.   Ever heard of Medicare?  That's government healthcare which alot of them wouldn't be willing to give up.  Why is logic such a stretch for these people? Check out this video below where this guy goes bat-shit ballistic over his apparent resistance to "socialism." What is most scary is that people seem hellbent on hate, regardless of what that means.  Some people just want a huge drama and hate-fest whether or not it's logical. I tried to flush Schaeffer's sweater down the toilet.

Especially when those paths go back even farther than high school.  I think he and I were butting heads as far back as elementary school! If my memory serves me right, Schaeffer and I ended up, briefly, in the Guilford Central School together.  Fall 1968.  Yep. I was a newly transplated girl from New Orleans dropped unceremoniously into a tiny, extremely humble elementary school out in the boondocks of southern Vermont.  I had NO idea what the hell I was doing there and was suffering my own case of "Other-itis."   I In my case, as an only child of often charming, but highly eccentric parents, my wild ride hit some very bumpy patches, More on that later.
