No Way To Say Goodbye with Leonard Cohen and Judy Collins

No Way To Say Goodbye Everybody knows - An anthem sadly prescient.

I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted: Christine and the Queens

Image
Can't stop listening, watching...while  doing my face with a magic marker.   Guess I'm tilted, too.   Well, Héloïse Letissier, you will always be "Keith Richards" to me.  And Christine.  And I want to hear even more about "The Queens," too.  Keep sharing.  Keep moving.  Keep singing.  And keep expressing.  We need your gift for articulating the view from the margin along with your gorgeous self-acceptance now more than ever. "Tilted" I will die before Methusalah So I'll fight sleep with Ammonia And every morning with eyes all red I'll miss them for all the tears they shed But I'm actually good Can't help it if we're tilted I'm actually good Can't help it if we I'm actually good Can't help it if we're tilted I'm actually good Can't help it if we're tilted I miss prosthesis and mended souls Trample over beauty while singing their

Someone Great: LCD - Tribute to so much loss of talent in 2016

Image
In tribute to ~ Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince and so many others who chose to leave in 2016. LCD Soundsystem's tune seems an appropriate choice to address the gaping hole left where their unique brilliance once shined so brightly for so long in our world. Take nothing for granted.   Life is so fragile.

Cara Delevingne Opens Up About Depression & Issues With Modeling Industry

Image
Or Otherwise Entitled: "Be Comfortable In Your Own Shoes Because You're Going To Be In Them A Long Time."      23-year-old supermodel-turned-actress Cara Delevingne has never shied away from telling the public how she really feels — especially when it comes to the modeling industry. However, here her astonishingly frank, brave interview with the wonderful Rupert Everette, contains insights which I hope all women, especially young women, do take the time to watch from start to finish. Hats off to Delevingne for her inner strength and courage not to give up on herself. That took the most courage of all.

Karen Carpenter: Close To You. Superstar.

Still speechless at how perfect she was. And so filled with grace to keep sharing her profound talent with the world while facing her own crushing, lethal imperfections. Heartbreaking.

Spoon. Inside Out. (Lyrics & KCRW studio video)

Current ear candy I just cannot get enough of. The low-tech KCRW video sort-of makes up for giving up my ticket to the Beck concert last weekend. Inside Out Spoon Time's gone inside out Time gets distorted with This intense gravity I don't got time for holy rollers But then they wash my feet And I won't be their soldier There's intense gravity Yeah, there's intense gravity I'm just your satellite I'm just your satellite Ooh, and I know that time's gone inside out And now it's only like we told you Hm, oh then they wash my feet They do not make me complete Break out a character for me Time keeps on going when We got nothing else to give We got nothing else to give Ooh, 'cause our time's gone inside out I don't make time for holy rollers Hm, there's only you I need They do not make me complete

Video, by Aimee Mann, lyrics & video

"Video"  By Aimee Mann Tell me why I feel so bad, honey TV's flat and nothing is funny I get sad and stuck in a cone of silence Like a big balloon with nothing for ballast Labeled like a bottle for Alice Drink me down or I'll drown in a sea of giants And tell me, "Baby, baby, I love you It's nonstop memories of you It's like a video of you playing It's all loops of seven-hour kisses Cut with a couple near-misses Back to the scene of the actor saying: 'Tell me, baby, baby – why do I feel so bad?'" Tell me why I feel so bad, honey Fighting left me plenty of money But didn't keep the promise of memory lapses Like a building that's been slated for blasting I'm the proof that nothing is lasting Counting to eleven as it collapses And tell me, "Baby, baby, I love you It's nonstop memories of you It's like a video of you playing It's all loops of seven-hour kis

Losing My Edge LCD Soundsystem

Image
Late last night I watched a funny link  of the Muppets singing a cover of LCD Soundsystem's Dance Yrself Clean .   It's an  amusing clip, to be sure, but not as truly great as some of their other work. Below is another clip of LCD Soundsystem singing Losing My Edge, which reminded me of how great they were this past fall at Hollywood Bowl last October.  And they were great.  Absolutely great. Sorry, but I simply cannot fathom that I'm going to miss their farewell concert in April in New York later this year.  The last concert, ever for this group?  - No.

A beautiful economy in motion: Genki Sudo: World Order

We've all heard it before:  "Less is more."  But what does that mean regarding movement? "Less is more" is the mantra every actor and writer is hit over the head with, nearly hourly, by every teacher, choreograper or director they'll ever work with.    And as they'll all tell you, it is mu ch easier said than done.  Below's video, "World Order," by Genki Sudo puts this deceptively complicated artistic theory to practice in the medium of dance.    *Note:  You will NEVER see ensemble work performed ANY more exquisitely than you see here.  This is the gold standard for ensemble work.  Period.  And, note, you will never see a performance of our beating heart performed any more beautifully and powerfully than you see starting in about Minute 3:48.  Moving and gorgeous.  I'm in awe. Okay, I'll admit I'd never heard of Genki Sudo, before, but by minute 3:48 I was a complete goner and had completely fallen under the m

The apocalyptic siren song that is Cormac McCarthy's "The Road"

Image
While stuck in bed earlier this month recovering from the flu, my husband surprised me by coming in and handing me a copy of The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. "This is a perfect time to read this" he said. Now, don't ask me why anyone would hand someone they love a story about the end of the world. Especially someone coughing up a lung from H1N1, but, what can I say? That's just one of the bizarre little quirks which passes for true love around here. Quite reluctantly I began reading this, quite sure that given the bleak nature of the story combined with our entire family getting Swine Flu, was simply going to ensure this book ended up in the literary graveyard that is my side of my bed until a sunnier day. However, much to my surprise, I immediately fell under the spell of The Road. It was quite simply, impossible to put down, whether or not I was feverish and coughing. My husband knows me so well. So, now that I'm almost done with the novel, I find I'm p
