OCR story about how California new stock Epi Pen law was a needed bill to become a law.

Image
Okay, didn't write this myself, however a subject near and dear to my heart.   New state law will require schools to stock EpiPens for students with allergies Orange County schools are gearing up to supply the  epinephrine  auto-injectors used to treat anaphylaxis . BY DEEPA BHARATH  / STAFF WRITER  Published: Dec. 16, 2014 Updated: 7:47 p.m. Juliet Larsen was only 15 months old when she took one bite of peanut butter. In less than two minutes, her heart stopped beating. “We took her to the hospital,” Louise Larsen, her mother, said about that day in 1997. “We almost lost our daughter.” Louise Larsen has been one of the most vocal advocates on social media and through her blog,  parentsofkidswithaseverepeanutallergy.blogspot.com , to make EpiPens mandatory in public schools. The devices are essentially auto-injectors that use epinephrine to quickly treat anaphylaxis, a severe, whole-body allergic reaction to allergens such as food, drugs or insect bite

Late Night Roadside Memorial

Image
It's three days later on the corner of Iroquois Road and Choctaw Drive, Westminster, Ca. Saturday night, somewhere around 9:30 p.m. Disneyland's fireworks pound out their final salute in the distance.   The fog rolls in.  Temperatures drop.  The day's visitors cease.   And in the dense fog 56 candles silently stand vigil looking out over a silent crossroad.

More about Andrew Brumback, the child who lost his life this week.

Image
For obvious reasons I haven't had much time to blog this week. (Click here for original story " Today a little boy was run over and killed in front of our house. "). However, I want to add as a follow-up to this piece which also ran in the  Orange County Register  that there will be a community fundraiser to help off-set the family's costs of this unexpected tragedy. If you would like to show your support for the family of Andrew Brumback, the little boy accidentally killed on his way to school this week, there are several ways to do so: There will be a community car wash this weekend at his local elementary school, and there is a web address for online donations, as well as a church address in which you can send any amount to show support. Community Car Wash Fundraiser for the Brumback Family Sequoia Elementary School Saturday, January 22 (and 29 & 30) 8:00 - 4:00  5900 Iroquois Road Westminster, CA   714-213-0440 Monetary donations may also be made at th

Meet Shirley Ghostman

All right.   -- Yesterday I discussed politics, and so now, today, it's time for something completely different. My husband, Pedro  of OCR's Pedro and the Watcher, sent me a couple of links to a funny Brit I'd never heard of before, which, means nothing, actually, because I don't know very much. And , because by the time I'm doing helping the kids with homework, I find Community Access Cable funny. So, that's not good. I digress. But I have to say, thi s guy made laugh so loud  it woke the dog. Hang in there on the first video till the people start to channel dead celebrities Meet Shirley Ghostman

MGMT, Spoon & BECK @ Hollywood Bowl - The un-review

Image
Last night's concert featured not one, but three astonishing artists under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. It was, trust me, a great night of music . But, I am no critic. No reviewer. I'm just a grateful tag-along as another reviewer's "date." Don't expect any great musical insights from me, for anything along those lines you'll have to see what you think of my husband's review of the show today in The Orange County Register. Anyhow -- This is just my own take in my remedial, amature blog which sports about 20 hits a day. Max. So, here's the micro-amateur-review. It was dazzling. We had amazing seats. MGMT, who opened, was terrific. (I'm a huge fan of this group, so I was walking on air from their first familiar notes.) Following their set, Spoon came out played a really mesmerizing, lengthy set, as well. They were really great, too. I finally heard more of their work, last night, meaning that now I need to seek and devour

Very cool group/video I actually think I discovered before Pete did!

So, my husband, Pete, (or "Pedro" of Pedro And The Watcher at Orange County Register ) who usually kicks my ass when it comes to finding cool new music finally was scooped by me in our house. He has a gig teaching journalism in Long Beach and said the some of his students started wearing T-Shirts with this group's name on it, but he hasn't heard them yet . (Well, I did.) So, for once I get to introduce something to him! Now that I know who they are I guess we missed a chance to see them as he said he thought they may have come through town recently, in any event, it took Prince at Bamboo Nation (As usual.) to get me to really take a look at these guys (Sorry, honey. I have a new gay bfriend. & I haven't even met him!) but this video is great. Yeah, I really like them, too. If you've never heard them before check them out...They're different. How often do you hear that?

"What Would Peggy Do Post Season One?"

Image
According to " Pedro ," of The Orange County Register , there are now websites devoted to different characters from Mad Men . I'd just like to say that when they are old enough that our daughters will only be allowed to view the blog titled: "What Would Peggy Do Post Season One?" Funny stuff also about this via BuzzFeed , too.

Ray Davies, the raw sound of the Everyman. Tonight in Anaheim.

Image
When we first arrived at The Grove, all I saw was a growing sea of receding hairlines and beefy Brits lining up at the bar to order their Newcastles before their hero, Ray Davies, took the stage. And I thought, Okay, not quite as glamorous an audience as last week's Feist concert, but this is Ray Davies! This is the guy responsible for The Kinks. He wrote "Lola." He's a rock 'n roll legend. He's gonna kick ass. Then my husband told me, you know, "Oh, didn't I tell you? Of course, he's a legend, but this is an acoustic concert. It's just Ray and another guitar player." Oh, wait. Huh? No drums? No bass? Just Ray Davies and another guy unplugged? Oh, no. This will be a long night. Another man in a Union Jack shirt walked by. I sighed. But, I was wrong. Again. It was an amazing concert. What a delight to discover so much new music I never even heard before tonight. It was far too short an evening of music -- Ray Davies wa
