The best Staycation ever! Feist & Sharon Jones at Hollywood Bowl!
Okay, I'm done bitching about the summer. It really has turned into one of the best "staycations" ever. (Thanks to a variety of unforeseen lucky breaks. Like husband getting to review fun things for The Orange County Register.)
Last night we drove up to the Hollywood Bowl to the Feist Concert, which was so, so cool. More on that later.
But, she was opened by an amazing musical group, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Wow. She totally knocked our socks off.
She's this fabulous funky soul sister who can only be described as the long lost sister of James Brown and Tina Turner.
She ROCKED the bowl. Opening act: Standing ovation. Almost felt sorry for poor Feist. Not sure I'd want to follow such an amazing opening group.
Here she is below doing 100 Days, 100 Nights.
Let me tell you, if you're ever lucky enough to see Sharon Jones live, don't walk: Run.
(And get her to take off those sexy shoes so can show you how to dance. You won't be disappointed.)
That girl can cut a rug.

The cool and stylish Feist followed her a little later in the evening, once the stars over head were really out.
If Feist's voice were compared to a textile, her's sounds like "suede." She has a uniquely smooth, smoky sound which, paired with her interesting chord choices and catchy indie rock rhythms, help turn what could be just this generation's Sade into an entirely new and hip female vocalist. Also add to her vibe her effortless juggling of her mighty guitar collection, or her lanky silhouette at the piano when she's not rocking out. She's cool. There's no other word for it. She is cool.
She did all her current fan faves: 1234 as well as one of my personal faves: I Feel It All.
She looked so groovy in her solid black tights/heels and white fringe minidress. She's a long, tall cool drink water, let me tell you.
My husband and I had great seats and the best time at The Bowl, that I can ever recall. Only bad part was the 40 minute wait to get our car out of parking. (Not complaining. Great for people watching.)
Other only bad part: We both forgot our cameras. Argh!
Also: Mental note to self: Pack your own food and wine for the concert: If buying there you are just getting more Big Lots-quality wine and food at Patina prices.
Here she is in her video of My Moon, My Man.
